EXPEDITION Mt. CHANDRASHILA PEAK  - Trekking to Tungnath - Chandershilla peak in the Garhwal Himalayas

We all know Uttarakhand sources almost all major rivers in India. To protect these rivers from vanishing and thereby saving ourselves from extinction, we have to understand and preserve nature in it's purest form. This trip is designed to promote this understanding in the best possible and affordable ways.

Preferred Months : Early September to April End.

ABOUT PLACES COVERED :
Rishikesh (1419 ft) is situated on the banks of river Ganga and surrounded on three sides by Himalayan-ranges. It is a great pilgrimage centre of India being the gateway to "CHAR DHAM" - the pilgrimage to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

Chopta (8250 ft) is the finest example of environmental conservation since construction of all sorts is banned in this 40 km greenest spread. Regarded as "Mini Switzerland" in Asian tourist circles, Chopta is one of the most mesmerizing alpine meadows in Garhwal Himalayas with excellent camping opportunities.

Chandrashila Summit (13645 ft) is a rock face 1 km above the temple of Tungnath (One of Panch Kedars and highest of all Himalayan temples). The oak forest through which you trek to the summit abounds in a shy wild life especially Monal, foxes, peasants and musk-deer (The Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary is 3 km only). The spectacular view of Nandadevi, Shivling, Bhagirathi, Chaukhamba Kedarnath and the Gangotri - Yamunotri peaks add to the splendor of this place.

Deoria Tal (8200 ft) is a sparkling lake surrounded by dense forest. The famous Himalayan trout are found In abundance In the lake fed by natural springs in it’s depths. The lake is about three kilometers in circumference. Also find a lovely view of the 23,OOO ft high Chaukhamba peaks.

STUDENTS MUST CARRY: Back packs or shoulder strap bags only, a comfortable sports shoe pair, 2 pairs of woolen socks, a pair of slippers, a medium torch, a woolen cap, heavy woolens (inner, Jackate and pullover), a water sack, toiletries, a towel, 3 pairs of comfortable and sturdy casual wear/under garments, a trek suit (if have), a swim suit (if have), a raincoat with cap, Vaseline/lip guard, light and nourishing snacks, personal medicine, cash/valuables at owner’s risk.

Cost Includes : Tent stay on multi sharing basis corresponding to size of room. Transport. Hygienic and sumptuous meals. First Aid Kit. Individual Insurance. Teachers to accompany the students on 12 : 1 ratio.

Price does not include:
A. Any increase in the govt taxes leading to an increase in the land arrangements which may come into effect prior to departure and or escalation of taxes as are applicable. B. Expenses and services of a personal nature – telephone calls, meals, refreshments and snacks not specified in camp, room service, insurance, laundry and porterage. C. Any service not mentioned under heading “Tour Cost Includes” and the itinerary.

No Show Deduction : 100 % in case of No Show.

NB : Please remember that because of strict adherence to environment protection rules at Chopta no Bon-Fire activity and running water toilets are allowed. We prefer forest over dry toilets to maintain hygiene at camp site.

TENTATIVE ITINERARY : 5 Days

Day 0 : Delhi – Haridwar (by train) 4041 Mussoorie Express 20:45 Dep. /Arr. 05.15 hrs
09.30 pm : Reporting at New Delhi Rly. Stn. to board for an overnight journey.
10.45 pm : Board 4041 Mussoorie Exp for Haridwar.

Day 1 : Haridwar - Chopta (220 kms, 6-7hrs)
ARRIVAL : 05.15 am : Haridwar Jn.
Transfer to hill coach and drive to Chopta. Daily chores and breakfast at Rishikesh (24 km/ 1 hr) en-route. Lunch enroute at Hotel Vasudhara, Agastya Muni after having a most refreshing dip at Alaknanda river banking the hotel. Arrival at Chopta in afternoon. Check in camp. Evening free to enjoy the vicinity with games. Overnight at Camp.
NB : Please remember that because of strict adherence to environment protection rules at Chopta no Bon-Fire activity and running water toilets are allowed. We prefer forest over dry toilets to maintain hygiene at camp site.

Day 2 : Chopta –Deoria Tal
Activity : Early morning drive to sari village (20 km / 1 hr) with packed breakfast. Start trekking 3 km to Deoriatal. Back to camp for lunch with a stopover for river bath (optional). Evening free for games and cultural entertainment back at camp. Overnight at camp.

Day 3 : Chopta - Tungnath- Chandrashila Summit (4.5 km, 4-5 hrs)
ACTIVITY: Post breakfast drive with packed lunch to Chopta and further a steep climb of 3 km to Tunganath. Further up 1 km for the most breathtaking view of the high -Himalayas from Chandrashila Peak. Trek and drive down to hotel in evening. Overnight at camp.

Day 4 : Chopta - Haridwar - Delhi
ACTIVITY : Post breakfast drive back to Haridwar. lunch enroute at Rishikesh. Visit RAM JHULA, BHARAT MATA MANDIR and VESHNO SHRINE enroute. Arti-Darshan and Holi dip (Optional) at Hari-Ki-Peri. Post dinner departure for Haridwar Jn.
2300 hrs : Departure after dinner for Delhi by 4042 Mussoorie Exp.

Day 5 : 0700 hrs : Arrival Old Delhi Stn and disbursal of tour.

NB : Option of stay at Rishikesh on day 5 and rafting on day 6 is also available.

Day 4 : Chopta – Rishikesh (180 kms, 6-7hrs )

Early morning drive back to Rishikesh. River Bath (optional) and B/F enroute at Agastya Muni (60 km/2 hrs). Arrival Rishikesh in afternoon. Transfer to camp upon arrival at Rishikesh. Lunch. Team Building/General Games, Bon-Fire. Overnight at camp.

Day 5 : Rishikesh – Haridwar - Delhi
Entertain yourselves with a most memorable river rafting in the mother of all rivers- Ganga. Change into rafting gear upon arrival at rafting point. Your instructors shall check your gear and give you introductory briefings to prepare you for the first rafting run. Savor a life time memory with BODY SURFING and CLIFF JUMP enroute in river. Finish this unforgettable event at Rishikesh. The end of this run allows you float past below the famous Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula, the main tourist areas of Rishikesh.
NOTE :"Body Surfing" allows you to float free in almost still waters of Ganges 3 km after Brahmapuri. You need not to be swimmers for this activity. During "Cliff Jump" you are trained to jump from approx 30 ft cliff into the river.

Back to camp for lunch enroute at Rishikesh. Visit BHARAT MATA MANDIR and VESHNO SHRINE enroute. Arti-Darshan and Holi dip (Optional) at Hari-Ki-Peri. Post dinner departure for Haridwar Jn.
2300 hrs : Departure after dinner for Delhi by 4042 Mussoorie Exp.

Day 5 : 0700 hrs : Arrival Old Delhi Stn and disbursal of tour.

TERMS/PROVISIONS


Terms & Conditions
1. Tour is based on minimum strength of students corresponding to transport capacity.
2. The rates mentioned above are valid only till the month of December 2008.
3. These rates are applicable only for trek/trip mentioned in the itinerary.
4. Remittance of payment will be as per the schedule given in ‘Payment Schedule’.
5. All taxes applicable as on date for Cheque/DD or any formal taxable payment.
6. Organizers shall, in no way, be responsible for any mishap if so occurred during entire tour.
7. Any purchases/provisions during tour not inclusive in the package are payable in cash spontaneously.
8. The customer is requested to compulsorily carry a copy of the itinerary along during entire trip.

Payment Schedule
100 % of the tour cost shall be given on the acceptance and confirmation of all the services and signing of the confirmation letter.

Cancellation
1. If the client cancels the tour for what so ever reason, the cancellation must be intimated in writing.
2. When a cancellation is made clear 21 working days or more prior to the date of departure of the tour – Cancellation amount = 25% of the total tour cost.
3. When a cancellation is made clear 20-08 working days prior to the date of departure of the tour – Cancellation amount = 50% of the total tour cost.
4. When the cancellation is made less than clear 07 working days prior to the date of departure of the tour = 100% of the total tour cost.

Incase of postponement of the tour, the cancellation charges will be applicable as per actual cancellations levied by the suppliers and ground operators. A fresh quote, depending upon the new travel dates will be submitted. Payments received from the corporate will be adjusted against future travel after adjusting the cancellation charges.
